A university Homecoming is an event that occurs at schools all over the United States once a year that typically draws in thousands of alum from all over the place. There are usually crowds of people beaming with school pride- wearing school colors, and waving flags around displaying the school’s logo. I had the pleasure of traveling to Tallahassee, FL recently to attend my alma mater, Florida A&M University’s, homecoming and of course, I too proudly displayed my school paraphernalia (orange and green) while walking around town beaming with pride.

Tallahassee, FL- the capital of Florida is such a marvelous city. It is home to two major universities- Florida State University (FSU) and Florida A&M University (FAMU) and one major community college- Tallahassee Community College (TCC). Tallahassee is home to 376 thousand people, most of whom I would feel comfortable saying are college students who migrate from all over the United States. Although a small city compared to other cities in Florida, Tallahassee has a lot to offer visitors. There are plenty of great restaurants, two shopping malls, and great historic buildings to see while sightseeing.

It has been at least three years since my last trip to Tallahassee and at least four years since I left the city for good-but when I tell you it still feels like home, it really does. Tallahassee is small enough to make you feel cozy, but large enough to keep you very entertained

1) If possible, fly into a bigger city that is close by (Jacksonville, FL for example) for a much cheaper price. Jacksonville is only two hours away and may cut your flight costs in half.
2) Experience a different type of food everyday of your visit. Because Tallahassee is such a melting pot there are so many different varieties of food options including Indian, Hibachi style restaurants, and Chinese food. Make sure to branch out and try as many foods as possible.
3) If you are thinking of attending a school in Tallahassee, make sure you schedule a campus tour of your intended school. Check out the dorms, cafeteria, and campus library- the three places you are sure to spend most of your time on campus
